2018 and 2022 Olympian confirms end to competitive career
Aerials skier Lloyd Wallace, an Olympian in 2018 and 2022 and a three-time World Cup top-10 finisher, has announced his retirement, bringing to an end a storied on-snow career.
From his first Europa Cup starts in 2011 to his final competition at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, Wallace blazed a trail for British Aerials skiing, notching three Europa Cup podiums along the way including a landmark victory in Airolo, Switzerland, in 2015.
That result gave Wallace the distinction of being the first – and to date only – Brit to win a men’s Aerials Europa Cup contest, and he also became the first British Aerials Olympian in 20 years when competing at the PyeongChang Games in 2018.
Wallace continued to set new standards in British Aerials skiing right up to his final competition, where at the Beijing Olympic Winter Games, he became the first Briton to land a run featuring two quad-twisting triple somersaults on his way to a 21st place finish.
Speaking on news of Lloyd’s retirement, GB Snowsport Chief Executive, Vicky Gosling, said:
“Lloyd’s contribution to British Freestyle skiing has been enormous. His skill and dedication as an athlete, not least in the resilience he demonstrated in coming back from injuries sustained at points in his career, mark him out as an incredible ambassafor for British skiing.
“Lloyd’s achievements throughout his career will live long in the memory, while his professionalism and commitment to the sport will be recognised by everyone who trained and competed alongside him.”
Everyone at GB Snowpsort thanks Lloyd for his efforts throughout his career, and wishes him luck for the future.
