GBS selects fourteen athlete squad to represent nation at Alpine World Championships

Eight male and six female athletes selected across six Alpine disciplines

GB Snowsport are delighted to confirm the selection of fourteen athletes to the British Alpine World Championships squad for the competitions in Saalbach, Austria, next month.

The eight male and six female athletes selected include the full British Men’s Slalom World Cup team of Dave Ryding, Billy Major, and Laurie Taylor, alongside fellow World Cup level athletes in Roy Steudle, Victoria Palla and Reece Bell. Owen Vinter, Calum Langmuir, Giselle Gorringe, Lois Jackson, Dominic Shackleton, Molly Butler, Abi Bruce and Jack Irving make up the remainder of the initial selections list.

The size of squad marks an increase on the 12 athletes named for the 2023 Championships in Meribel-Courchevel, which had seen a previous high watermark of British representation.

Opening on 4 February and closing on 16 February, the 2025 Alpine World Championships will see the competition open with the Team Parallel on Tuesday 4 February, with the Men’s Slalom closing the Championships’ final day of racing.

Commenting on Team selections, Alpine Discipline Committee Chair, Juliet Foster, said:

The size and depth of squad that Britain will be sending to this year’s Alpine World Championships is testament to the incredible successes that British Alpine skiing has seen in recent years. Never before have so many British athletes met the qualification criteria for an Alpine World Championships, and we are delighted at the calibre of team that we will be sending to Saalbach next month.”

Dave Ryding said:

I’m feeling in good shape going into the World Championships, and focused on being ready next month when the Championships come around. Like every race, I’m at the World Championships to do my job and do it well, but it’s always special to have other Brits around the Championships, and that’s true for the fans as well as the other athletes we have in the team.

“Any race in Austria is always a good one; over the years I’ve really learned to use the energy from the crowd, so when the crowds are big like I know they’ll be in Saalbach, I really enjoy that, and that’s another reason to really look forward to these Championships.”

Molly Butler said:

“It’s incredible to be a part of the squad for the World Championships. Coming into this season I really wanted to make sure I developed my skiing and results as fluidly as possible, so to get to the point where I’m a part of this squad is a really great surprise.

“I love racing in Austria, the passion for the sport here is huge and the energy at the top is going to be amazing, so to have the chance to go out and ski as part of an event I remember watching as a child is something I’m really looking forward to.”
