18-year-old EYOF gold medallist ready for first steps on World Cup circuit
Freddy Carrick-Smith, the reigning European Youth Olympic Festival Giant Slalom champion, will make his World Cup debut at the season-opening Soelden GS World Cup this weekend.
Freddy, who also impressed at the Alpine World Junior Championships last season, will become Britain’s first men’s GS World Cup skier since Charlie Raposo’s retirement in March 2024, and only the fifth British male athlete to start a GS World Cup since the turn of the century, after Raposo, Alain Baxter, Andrew Noble, Noel Baxter, and Nicholas Moynihan.
Freddy’s selection marks another step in a dizzying rise for the youngster, who only made his FIS level debut in December 2023 and his Europa Cup debut in November 2024.
The Soelden Men’s GS World Cup is scheduled for Sunday 26 October, with the first run scheduled for 9am UK time.
Everyone at GB Snowsport would like to congratulate Freddy on his impending World Cup debut.
