A timed racing event in which four to six competitors simultaneously race down a course.

They are typically narrow with cambered turns, and steep and flat sections designed to challenge the athletes' ability to stay in control while maintaining maximum speed.

Time trial format followed by a knock-out tournament. Athletes race head to head in heats of four and occasionally six. The first two to cross the finish line advance to the next round, until the final.
