Results Round-Up: Brookes fifth as Brits put up strong showing in Chur

The opening European World Cup of the season saw solid performances across the board for Britain’s Park & Pipe snowboarders

The Swiss resort of Chur once again hosted the traditional European Park & Pipe World Cup curtain raiser this weekend, with Britain’s three-athlete Snowboard contingent laying down a strong showing in the Big Air competition.

In the Women’s field, Mia Brookes took fifth place with a score of 144.25, having qualified in third position. Sitting in first place after the first jump of the Finals, Mia’s fifth place finish gives a solid base for the season for an athlete competing in only her seventh career Big Air World Cup.

Britain’s second female athlete spot went to Katie Ormerod, whose 16th place finish marks an excellent return to Big Air competition for the first time since the Beijing Olympic Winter Games in 2022, and her first Big Air World Cup appearance since December 2021. Remarkably, the result marks Ormerod’s second World Cup appearance since March 2022, for an athlete rebuilding from a succession of injuries, and with eyes on the Milan-Cortina Games.

The Men’s Snowboard section saw Txema Mazet Brown land his career best Big Air World Cup result in only his second World Cup in British colours. The 18-year-old, who transferred to represent Britain from the New Zealand team earlier this year, took a 27th place finish in a strong qualification field with a well-executed backside double 14 nose grab.

In the Men’s Freeski competition, Chris McCormick made his third appearance at the Chur Big Air World Cup, having previously competed in 2021 and 2022, but on a challenging jump was only able to muster a 53rd place finish.
