Mia’s becomes first snowboard athlete to take Young Sportswoman title in SWOTY’s 35-year history
Mia Brookes was tonight named Young Sportswoman of the Year at the 35th Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year Awards, becoming the first ever snowboarder to be recognised in the Awards’ history.
The Award recognises Brookes’ remarkable rise to public prominence in a year which saw her become the youngest ever Freestyle Snowboard World Champion, as well as taking two World Cup podiums having only made her debut at the level last October.
Brookes was shortlisted alongside Penny Healey (Archery), Alice Capsey (Cricket), Emma Finucane (Cycling), Abbi Pulling (Motorsport), and Sophie Locking (Equestrian) and in being named Young Sportswoman of the Year follows in the footsteps of previous winners including Jessica Gadirova (Gymnastics – 2022 Young Sportswoman of the Year), Beth Shriever (Cycling – 2021 Young Sportswoman of the Year), and Dina Asher-Smith (Athletics – 2015 Young Sportswoman of the Year).
Congratulations, Mia!
