British interests ready to hit the slopes in Men’s and Women’s races
The Finnish resort of Levi will see Britain’s Men’s and Women’s Alpine athletes take to the slopes for their first World Cup races of the 2024/25 season this weekend.
The races, which mark 20th anniversary of the Lapland slope’s World Cup history, will see a Men’s Slalom programme for the first time since 2019 with Billy Major, Dave Ryding, Laurie Taylor, and Victoria Palla representing British interest in the opening Slalom races of the season.
In a Women’s Slalom race dominated in recent years by Mikaela Shiffrin and Petra Vlhova, who have shared an unbroken sequence of victories dating back to 2016, Palla will be making her third career World Cup start, having previously been in the starting gate for the 2023/24 Levi World Cups as well as the 2022/23 Flachau World Cup, and enters as the reigning Slalom Nor-Am Cup holder after a sensational run of performances on the Nor-Am circuit last season.
The Men’s Slalom will see Ryding, Major, and Taylor returning to a venue which has previously seen Ryding’s 2016 sixth place finish as the best in British history on the circuit, with the team entering the season on a high following last season’s historic sixth place finish in the Slalom Nations Cup standings.
The Women’s races are set to get underway with the first from 9am UK time on Saturday 16 November, with the Men’s races following at the same time the following day.
