Ryding and Taylor take top-30s in Gurgl
The Gurgl Slalom World Cup saw Dave Ryding and Laurie Taylor deliver a pair of top-30 finishes on a day of high-octane racing at the Austrian resort’s second year as a World Cup host.
At the turn, Ryding sat in fifth place after a blistering first run, while Taylor came through in 29th spot, five tenths of a second inside the top-30 cut off. In what is fast becoming at trademark, Taylor delivered a blistering second run performance, the eighth fastest of the competition, rising to an eventual 23rd place finish for the joint third-best World Cup result of his career, while Ryding showed superb racing instincts to hold on to an eventual seventh place finish, less than a second behind Noel Clement’s eventual winning time.
Billy Major looked in fine form at the start of his run before falling victim to a straddle which ended his race.
In the women’s Slalom, Victoria Palla‘s fifth World Cup start ended after the first run, with a time of 54.45 leaving her less than a second outside of qualification for the second run.
Freeski boys put up good showing in weather-impacted Stubai Slopestyle event
Chris McCormick was within one place of Finals qualification at the Stubai Freeski Slopestyle World Cup in an event that faced multiple scheduling changes due to high levels of wind and snow throughout qualification. Showing some of his best form in the past year, McCormick landed a clean first run alongside fellow British competitors Tom Greenway and James Pouch, with McCormick’s 17th place finish proving his best since the March 2023 Silvaplana World Cup, with Greenway joining him in the top-30 with a 29th place finish, and Pouch just outside finishing in 35th.
