Alpine Race Entries policy
We have a published policy in place that is applied consistently across all athletes: no tech races that clash with the tech races at the British Championships, and no speed races that clash with the speed races at the Championships.
This is standard practice across many nations, who generally require their athletes to be present at their National Championships. If an athlete wishes to represent Great Britain, they should also want to attend and support their own National Championships.
The blackout period is also noted and explained on the FIS entry spreadsheet.
It is very important that British athletes attend and support their National Championships. For some age groups, results from the event are also used as part of the squad selection process.
Of course, we understand that attendance is not always possible and, for valid reasons, we will grant attendance exemptions. However, in those circumstances we ask that athletes do not enter speed races during the speed races of the British Championships or tech races during the tech days of the Championships.
In the past, we have seen athletes choose not to enter their National Championships in order to attend other races they believe may provide better points opportunities or be more cost effective. This is not fair to the athletes who do attend, and it also removes the opportunity for GB Snowsport to see athletes compete head-to-head.
We must apply this policy consistently. It would not be equitable for us to allow some athletes to race slalom or GS during our tech days while others are not permitted to do so. This approach is also consistent with the policies applied by many other nations.
- No speed race entry requests (FIS/NC/NJC/NJR/CIT/ENL/UNI) can be fulfilled 23rd March – 27th March, as they clash with the GB Alpine National Championships
- No tech race entry requests (FIS/NC/NJC/NJR/CIT/ENL/UNI) can be fulfilled 28th March – 1st April, as they clash with the GB Alpine National Championships
