Back on the site of his World Cup debut, Freddy Carrick-Smith delivers a performance to savour
19-year-old Freddy Carrick-Smith delivered a memorable performance at the opening Alpine World Cup of the season, storming to 12th place to record his first career World Cup points and the best ever British Men’s Giant Slalom World Cup result in the process.
Competing on the slopes that saw him make his World Cup debut as an 18-year-old last season, Carrick-Smith went on the attack after the turn, landing the fifth fastest second run of the entire field, to finish less than two tenths of a second outside of the top-10. Remarkably, the result marks the earliest World Cup points of the season for a GB Snowsport athlete since Alex Tilley finished 13th in the Soelden Giant Slalom World Cup in October 2021.
Starting just the fifth World Cup race of his career, and in his first season as a member of the Tenzing GB Snowsport Alpine World Cup team, Carrick-Smith’s Soelden performance caps an ascent which has seen him stake a claim as one of the most exciting Alpine racers of his generation, alongside brothers Luca and Zak.
