Fluor wax ban to take effect from 2023/24 season

Fluor wax ban to take effect from 2023/24 season

Confirmation of long-trailed ban will require compliance at every level of snowsport competition

Following a period of significant testing and consultation, FIS have confirmed that a full ban on fluor products used in ski preparation will be implemented from the start of the 2023/24 winter season.

Longstanding concerns over the health risks and environmental impacts of fluorinated wax products underpin the decision to enact a ban on their use in international competition, with FIS confirming that a full testing regime will be in effect at all top-tier events, including World Ski Championships, World Cups, and other major events including Junior World Championships. Randomised testing will also take place at lower-level events to ensure compliance throughout the sport.

GB Snowsport will work closely with all World Class Programme athletes, coaches, and technicians to ensure British teams are compliant with the ban, the aims of which we fully support.

We would strongly encourage all parts of the British snowsport system to ensure they are fully aware of the implications of the fluor ban, and to pay close attention to the Fluor Ban Information Resources published on the FIS website, which include detailed guidance on the cleaning and preparation of equipment and tools ahead of the new season.
