GB Snowsport is recruiting an Independent Director to take on the role of Treasurer, to advise the Board and oversee the financial team within the organization. Whilst the role will allow the preferred candidate to assist and support the development of elite British Snowsport athletes, overall, he/she should possess appropriate financial management experience required to assist the CFO and their team. The appointment will be for a four-year term commencing in March 2026. This is a voluntary, unpaid role with an expected time commitment of approximately 15 hours per month.

Role
- This is an Independent Non-Executive role.
- Advise the Board in the development of its vision, strategy and policies in collaboration with the CEO and other Board members.
- Provide oversight and independent views on the implementation of the sport’s strategy.
- Advise on widening participation in the sport whilst also providing all the facilities required to enable elite athletes to produce their best results.
- Provide oversight and independent views on the implementation of the next phase of the sport’s strategy from 2026 – 2030.
- Function as the Treasurer, GBS: advise and counsel the Board in its responsibilities for the governance of the organisation and its financial stability
- Act as the Chair, Audit & Risk Committee: responsible for overseeing GBS’s financial reporting, internal controls, risk management, and governance frameworks. Key duties include managing the Board’s leadership of the external audit relationship, the process and ensuring compliance.
- Advise and assist on fundraising and sponsorship initiatives through one’s own networks.
Person Specification and Key Attributes
- Demonstrable experience of operating at board level as a senior executive or a non-executive director.
- Qualified accountant with a recognized professional body and extensive knowledge of risk management or audit.
- Experience as a board member, CFO, or senior leader in complex organizations.
- General knowledge of fund raising, commercial, marketing and sponsorship.
- High integrity, ability to challenge management constructively and positively.
- Possession of relevant knowledge of snowsport in the UK.
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership and influencing skills and the ability to contribute effectively to the board, and its committees and to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of being an Independent Director.
- Experience of being on the board of a not-for-profit organization (GBS is not a charity).
- Empathy with the volunteers who are vital to the running of the sport.
