Brilliant Brookes seals Big Air Gold in Klagenfurt

Brit seals back-to-back World Cup victories with stunning performance in Austria

Mia Brookes delivered another stunning display of Big Air snowboarding at the Klagenfurt World Cup this evening to seal back-to-back World Cup victories, following last month’s podium-topping performance at the Beijing Big Air World Cup.

Coming into Finals after a safely-played qualification round, Brookes sat third after the first jump, before delivering two stunning jumps on the second and third rounds to fire herself to her latest career victory, and push Japan’s Mari Fukada into the Silver medal position.

A second round Backside Dub 12 and third round Cab 14 left Brookes with a total score of 184.25, two points clear of Fukada, and distant from Momo Suzuki, who took third place with a total score of 166.75.

Speaking afterwards, Mia said:

I’m so hyped to win this competition! It doesn’t even feel real to know I’ve just gone back to back. It’s crazy!”

Ben Kinnear, Freestyle Snowboard coach, added:

“Two in a row! Scaffold jumps aren’t easy, Mia’s approach this week is of the seasoned pro: making her tricks fit this tricky man-made structure is no mean feat. Great finals, such a competitive field and women’s snowboarding right now is in an incredible place; Mia’s a big part of that”

In the Men’s competition, Txema Mazet-Brown finished ninth to land a career-best World Cup performance in his first season with the British team, following his nation transfer from the New Zealand system this summer.
