Shona sustained an injury during a military training exercise which resulted in a below knee amputation in 2018. Having never skied prior to injury, she learned to ski in Bavaria through the Battle Back programme, an MoD-funded initiative providing adventurous training opportunities to wounded, injured and sick service personnel.

Subsequently, Shona was given the opportunity to join the Armed Forces Para-Snowsport Team where she gained her first experiences of ski racing. She was selected to the GB Team in 2021 and won silver and bronze at the 2021 World Championships before going on to represent GB at the 2022 Paralympic Games.
